As a special gift to the kidlit writing community, we’re offering a summer of free coaching from our fabulous Insiders Coaching Club mavens, Valerie Heller and Kate Penndorf.
You’re invited to participate in as many as seven live events (with on-demand replays), plus a vibrant forum to connect with your fellow kidlit writers.
Participation is open to all kidlit writers, regardless of genre or experience. Whether you’re just starting out or a published pro, you’ll have a great time – and become a better writer.

Live Sprints
Set a timer, and start writing!
Valerie and Kate will begin by setting an intention. What could this sprint look like for you?
- Are you ready to draft or revise: your next scene, a proposal, freelance work?
- Maybe you’re reworking your opening and wish to try out various ways to start your story
- Perhaps your writing space is full of little notes about your manuscript, and you’d love to get them all organized by seeing what works for the story you wish to tell
- Love outlining? Sprinting is a great opportunity for structuring your story
Or maybe you want to let your imagination loose and pour words onto the page! You don’t need to have a specific intention in mind.
Then, we’ll mute our microphones (and turn off cameras if you’d like) and set a timer for 25 minutes. That’s when the magic begins. When the tomato dings, you can jump off and continue writing if you’re on a roll, or stay on for some sharing.
As a community, we’ll come back for conversation about what we discovered! Writing during sprints does wonders for experiencing a-ha moments and affirmations.

Valerie and Kate will edit selected pages submitted by members – live!
During the live call, we’ll encourage you to discuss in the chat how you’re seeing craft coming through, quote any wording or lines which you connected to, and of course let us all know those wow moments of insight gleaned from tonight’s conversation with the writers of these pages.

Do I have to participate in every live call and activity?
Nope. Pick and choose what you like.

What if I can't make the live call for an event I want to see?
Everything will be recorded and you can watch at your leisure.

If I enjoy the coaching, can I continue in the fall?
Yes! Valerie and Kate will be starting a new, full season of coaching in September, and you're welcome to join. It will have a very reasonable monthly cost, but again, there's no obligation whatsoever to continue.
